About Holmes Run Community Garden

The Holmes Run Community Gardens are located on the west-end of  the City on Holmes Run Parkway, in Holmes Run Park.  Each plot is about 15x20 feet wide, and there are 24 plots. Rentals are available on an annual basis, when plots are available.  For more information see the city's website or you may contact Park Operations at 703.746.5496.


In addition to Holmes Run Community Garden, the city runs the Chinquapin Organic Gardens located behind Chinquapin Recreation Center and T.C. Williams High School in the city of Alexandria. The Chinquapin Community Gardens are run by the City of Alexandria and are available for rent to City residents for a fee.  Each plot is about 15x20 feet wide, half-plots are 15x10, and there are 172 plots.  Rentals are available on an annual basis, when plots are available. Advisory Board

All gardeners are welcome to join the garden's advisory board. The volunteer advisory board meets monthly to discuss issues in the garden and to get updates about the gardens from the city of Alexandria.

The advisory board has regularly monthly meetings (February - November) on the second Thursday of month at 6p.m. via zoom.

City-Garden Partnership

The advisory board entered into a two-year agreement with the city in order to keep garden rental fees low. The gardeners will be responsible for additional maintenance in and around the gardens. The agreement is in effect from September 1, 2017 - August 31, 2019.
